Implantation Bleeding - Symptoms And What To Expect?

According to some experts, implantation bleeding occurs when an embryo is attached to the uterus lining. But it doesn’t affect everyone. Usually, implantation bleeding lasts for a while and is light. It takes place at least 10 to 14 days after your conception, or at least when you’ve missed your period. In the first eight weeks, you may experience vaginal bleeding. Spotting is another major issue before the beginning of the period. Is your bleeding related to pregnancy? Here are some common symptoms.

What does implantation bleeding look like?

Implantation bleeding may look like a consistent or light blood flow when you wipe and when you need a soft pad. It appears as light spotting and chances are the blood may have cervical mucus.  As per the time the blood took to leave the body, you may see a lot of colors –

• You may see a shade of dark or light red if it is fresh

• If vaginal discharge is mixed, blood may look orange or pink

• If it is older, it may appear brown because of oxidation

Note the frequency, color and consistency of your bleeding. You will need to explain these details to your gynecologist. The elimination process is used to diagnose implantation bleeding. Your doctor may find other causes like polyps for bleeding. You should see your doctor if you have clotting or heavy bleeding. It may show early miscarriage.

Other Symptoms

The consistency and color may vary case to case basis. You should look for other symptoms if you feel that you are pregnant. Fatigue, frequent urination, and nausea are some of the earliest signs of pregnancy. Your breasts may become swollen or tender because of hormonal changes which take place just after conception. Some other symptoms of pregnancy are –

• Constipation

• Cramping

• Mood swings

• Bloating

• Food aversions

Early symptoms may or may not be a sign of pregnancy. Even when some women are not pregnant, they may have all these signs. Sometimes, a woman can be pregnant, but she doesn’t have any symptoms. A missed period is one of the most common symptoms. But it is not easy to tell if you have missed the period if you have irregular cycles. You may get an at-home pregnancy test kit if you have any unusual symptoms and have missed your period. You should also visit your gynecologist for a pregnancy test.

When to visit your doctor?

If you have abnormal bleeding or spotting, you should tell your doctor whether you are pregnant or not. You should still see your doctor even though light bleeding doesn’t mean something suspicious. Make an appointment if you get a positive result with a home pregnancy test. It is essential to confirm your test and figure out the best treatment options.
